What Documents Are Needed To Apply For NSFAS In 2027/2028
The following are the documents required for the NSFAS application:
South African ID Document or Passport:
- The first and foremost document required is a certified copy of the student’s South African ID document or passport if they are not South African citizens. This is to verify the student’s identity and citizenship status.
Parent or Guardian’s ID Documents:
- The student needs to provide their parent or guardian’s ID documents, or a death certificate if they are deceased. This is required to verify the family income and to confirm the student’s dependency status.
Proof of Income:
- The NSFAS provides financial assistance to students from families with low incomes. Therefore, proof of income is necessary to determine whether a student is eligible for financial aid. Students need to provide their proof of income as well as their parent or guardian’s proof of income. This can include payslips, bank statements, or a letter from the employer.
Completed and Signed NSFAS Application Form:
- Students need to complete and sign the NSFAS application form, which is available on the NSFAS website. This form collects all the necessary information, including personal details, academic background, and family income. It is essential to fill out the form accurately and completely to avoid any delays in processing the application.
Signed and Completed Consent Form:
- The consent form authorises the NSFAS to verify the personal and financial information provided by the student and their parents or guardians. This is to ensure that the information provided is accurate and to prevent fraudulent activities.
Matric Certificate or Statement of Results:
- First-time students need to provide their matric certificate or statement of results to verify that they meet the minimum academic requirements to study at a university or TVET college.
Academic Record:
