The NSFAS is a bursary operating at a national level in South Africa, providing financial support for people entering tertiary education (colleges, universities, and vocational courses). The NSFAS is open for anyone who cannot afford such education through other means, such as regular student loans or bank funding.

​​If you qualify according to the means test, NSFAS will only support you for a maximum of five years, based on the availability of funding in each year. If you change your course frequently and you take longer than five years to complete your qualification, you will have to pay for yourself until you graduate.

Can nsfas fund me without matric

You need to have passed Grade 12 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a College. if you did not pass your matric, you will not be eligible for NSFAS university. NSFAS will be able to pay successful students’ registration fees effectively and without delays.

Do you qualify?

  • A South African citizen;
  • Financially needy as determined by the NSFAS means test;
  • Academically deserving and can demonstrate the ability to succeed in your studies; and
  • If you have applied or are applying to study at a public university or TVET College for a qualification.
  • You need to have passed Grade 09/10/11/12 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a TVET College.
  • You need to have passed Grade 12 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a university.
  • All applicants currently receiving SASSA grants will not be means-tested;
  • Orphans and children with unemployed parents;
  • All learners from no-fee schools.

REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY

  1. Provide your own cellphone number and email address
  2. You must have a copy of your ID or birth certificate
  3. National ID copies of parents, guardian or spouse
  4. The evidence of your income or 1 year’s IRP5 if necessary
  5. The proof of income of your parents, guardian or spouse.
  6. If you are a SASSA grant recipient, you don’t need to provide any evidence of income.
  7. All Applicants with a disability should provide and submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
  8. An applicant who is known as a Vulnerable Child by the Department of Social Development should also provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form.

How to Apply for NSFAS Online 2022

If you would like to apply for NSFAS 2022, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. You have to visit the NSFAS website: www.nsfas.org.za online
  2. Then, you have to click on the “myNSFAS” tab
  3. After that, you create your myNSFAS account
  4. After creating myNSFAS account, you then have to click on the “Apply” tab
  5. Answer the following questions you see on your screen
  6. Update all your personal information
  7. Upload all the required supporting documents
  8. Lastly, Click on “Submit” to send your application for review.
