Application open and Closing Date

Application for the 2023-2024 Academic year opened from September 28, 2022, to 21 January 2023. Prospective students and students have until January 21, 2023, to apply for the National Financial Aid Scheme funding. No late Applications will be accepted because the closing date for NSFAS 2022 Applications has been extended by the Management.

 

The previous deadline was Friday, January 07, 2023. The application process started on September 28. 2022 and to date, more than 600 000 applications were received from applicants who intend to further their post-school education at any of the 50 TVET colleges and 26 public universities.

 

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a public entity reporting to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). It provides financial assistance in the form of study bursaries to qualifying students who plan to study at Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges and public universities.

 

 

How do I apply for NSFAS 2023?

2. Non-SASSA applicants must provide ID copies of parent/s, legal guardian/guardian or spouse.

3. Smart ID cards: a copy with both sides of the smart ID must be provided.

4. Prof of income: applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where applicable (non-SASSA) should provide latest payslip, not older 3 months, UIF letter, appointment letter, retrenchment letter (applicant and/or parent(s), legal guardian/spouse).

5. Person with disabilities: to complete Disability Annexure A form.

 

 

Once your funding application becomes successful, NSFAS will cover your costs for:

  • Accommodation
  • Transport
  • Living allowance
  • Book allowance
  • Incidental/personal care allowance

If you are studying at the University of South Africa (UNISA) you will receive funding for:
Tuition

Books (subject to the number of modules registered)

Personal care allowance

 

 

How to Apply for NSFAS Online 2023

If you would like to apply for NSFAS 2023, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. You have to visit the NSFAS website: www.nsfas.org.za online
  2. Then, you have to click on the “myNSFAS” tab
  3. After that, you create your myNSFAS account
  4. After creating myNSFAS account, you then have to click on the “Apply” tab
  5. Answer the following questions you see on your screen
  6. Update all your personal information
  7. Upload all the required supporting documents
  8. Lastly, Click on “Submit” to send your application for review.
