The countdown to the NSFAS 2026/2027 academic year has officially begun, and thousands of future students are eager to know when the NSFAS application will open. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) plays a vital role in empowering South African youth by providing bursaries to deserving students who wish to pursue higher education at public universities and TVET colleges.

For the upcoming 2026/2027 academic cycle, the NSFAS online application period is expected to open in September 2025 and close on 15 November 2025. During this window, eligible students can submit their online applications through the official NSFAS website at www.nsfas.org.za. Starting your application early gives you enough time to gather documents, complete your profile, and avoid the last-minute rush.

To qualify for NSFAS funding, applicants must be South African citizens or permanent residents with a combined household income of R350,000 or less per year. Students with disabilities qualify if their household income does not exceed R600,000 per year. NSFAS funding covers essential study costs, including tuition fees, registration, accommodation, transport, living allowances, and learning materials.

Once the application portal opens, prospective students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Submitting your NSFAS application early ensures that your details are processed on time and improves your chances of receiving full funding for your 2026/2027 studies.
