Everything You Need to Know About NSFAS Online Applications for 2025/2026:

If you aspire to study or are currently enrolled at a public university or TVET college and belong to a family with an income of R350,000 or less, then consider applying for NSFAS. The online NSFAS application window for the 2024/2025 academic year will be open from November 21st, 2023, until January 31st, 2024.  The NSFAS is a government organization under the Department of Higher Education and Training, established in accordance with the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999).

Its purpose is to offer financial assistance to underprivileged students seeking to further their education at public universities or TVET colleges. Nsfas Online Applications Date 2025/2026

  • The online application for Nsfas in the year 2025/2026 will be opening on the 21st of November 2024 and the applications will be closing on the 31st of January 2025. Applicants should note to submit their applications as early as possible in other to meet the application deadline.

Who Qualifies For Nsfas Online Applications 2025/2026

You must be among the following people to qualify for Nsfas:

  • All South African citizens
  • All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
  • Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
  • A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
  • Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

What Nsfas Cover In 2025/2026

The amounts indicated for accommodation, living allowance, transport, and learning materials need to be aligned with the approved latest DHET guidelines

University Students:

  • Accommodation
    As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500  per annum
  • Living allowance R15, 000  per annum
  • Book allowances R5200 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

Tvet College Students:

  • Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
  • Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
  • Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350  per annum
  • Transport R7000 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

Nsfas Online Applications Requirements 2025/2026

Before starting the application process, ensure that you have the following documents:

  • Certified copy of your South African ID or birth certificate.
  • Certified copies of your parent(s) or guardian(s) ID.
  • Proof of income for your parent(s) or guardian(s).
  • Your latest academic records.
  • Consent form signed by your parent(s) or guardian(s) for NSFAS to verify income.

Nsfas Online Applications Process In 2025/2026

If you would like to apply for NSFAS 2023, follow the steps outlined below:

  • Visit the NSFAS official website: www.nsfas.org.za online
  • Click on the “myNSFAS” tab
  • Create your myNSFAS account
  • Click on the “Apply” tab
  • Answer the following questions you see on your screen
  • Update all your personal information
  • Upload all the required supporting documents
  • Click on “Submit” to send your application for review.
